Metal, carved jade. This appears to be a pheasant in a magnolia tree motif (the pheasant is an imperial insignia, symbolising the empress; the magnolia is an imperial plant, a symbol of female beauty).

Flora or fauna motifs were often used on buckles. Entire series were also produced, with individual pieces fastened to a leather or silk belt.
